Guest Information

Everything you need for a calm, easy stay.

Practical bits, gentle reminders and the answers to the questions we get most often.

What to pack

The valley rewards anyone who comes prepared.

  • A torch (paths are dimly lit by small solar lights only)
  • Walking boots or wellies, especially in wetter months
  • Layers - Welsh hills do their own thing weather-wise
  • Flip-flops or slip-ons for nipping out to the hot tub
  • Swimwear for the hot tub
  • A camera (the view will deserve one)
  • Any groceries beyond the welcome hamper (nearest Co-op is 3.5 miles)
  • Cash - handy for our £10 fire pit firewood and some local shops

Getting here

We're three and a half miles from Llanidloes, in Powys. Use what3words for pinpoint accuracy: ///surprised.sleeps.rebel.

Postcode SY18 6LJ will get you close, but some sat-navs stop short. From the A470, turn off towards Newchapel and follow the country lane for about half a mile until you see our Hidden Valley Hideaway sign on the left.

Approaching from the south? Stay on the A470 through Llangurig and Llanidloes, then turn right for Newchapel just after Llanidloes. Some sat-navs suggest turning right at Rhayader onto the B4518 - it works, but it's narrow and slow. We don't recommend it.

Arriving by train

The nearest station is Caersws, 6.3 miles away. We recommend pre-booking a taxi:

  • Di's Taxi: 07874 762448
  • Llani Cars: 07495 306840

Meet your hosts

Stacy and Bob, your hosts at The Perch, sharing a quiet moment together on the cabin deck.

We are Stacy and Bob and for many years we dreamed of escaping to the hills with our children for the quieter life, surrounded by natural beauty. In 2009, we found that chance in a run-down seven-and-a-half-acre smallholding, which we've been lovingly restoring ever since.

We adored our little valley hideaway so much that we created The Perch for others to share in its charm - the rolling hills, the warmth of the farming community and the magic of local wildlife.
